METHODOLOGY: HOW WE STUDY MUMMIES

The animal mummy project is designed to learn as much as possible about each mummy in the collection without unwrapping it or damaging it. The study of each mummy follows these steps:

RESEARCHING MUMMY HISTORY
Who discovered the mummy? Where? When?

VISUAL EXAMINATION OF THE MUMMY
How is it wrapped? Is it damaged?

X-RAYING THE MUMMY
Is it a fake? What kind of animal is inside?

PHOTOGRAPHING & RECORDING
So that we can produce a comprehensive catalog
and better educate the public
